What I'm Listening to -
I think that like a lot of you, there were times in my life that U2 was a major touchstone in my life. For some friends, it was War or Joshua Tree. For me, it was when Achtung Baby came out during my sophomore year in college. This week I was listening to U2's Songs of Experience alongside their 2014 Songs of Innocence. I'm a bit conflicted by the album. There is no doubt that Bonothe Edge and the other two with regular names are master craftsmen of the rock song, but there wasn't anything in the album that seemed to really catch my attention. It feels like U2 has entered that exclusive, gilded cul de sac with bands like the Rolling Stones where nearly everything they do sounds great but ultimately like another version of something they did before.
